May is National Carriage & Driving Month. During this time the Carriage Association of America fundraises specifically for the Education Fund.
What is funded? In 2020/2021 here is a snapshot of the programs funded through your support:
Social Media – We love when we receive notification from Facebook that we have “reached 19.1 K and had 3.0 K engagements this week.” Some weeks we hit a little higher, some weeks a little lower; the important aspect being that we are reaching and educating new people about carriages and carriage driving each and every week through social media. That effort takes time and the Education Fund helps pay for the time spent on developing great content. That content is then shared via Facebook, the CAA Blog, and The Spokesperson, the CAA’s weekly newsletter.
Webinars – In March of 2020 the Carriage Association started a series of educational webinars. The webinars are always free to CAA members. We’ve been very fortunate that our speakers have volunteered their time (Thank you!) but there are still expenses affiliated with the software that we use and staff time.
Learning Weekends – Previous funding allowed us to purchase our own projector that is used at Learning Weekends and other events. This has allowed us to save over $3,000 in tech costs associated with renting the equipment through the hotel. As events start again in 2021 we are looking at different sound system options. This would allow better recordings to be made as well as save on equipment rental.
Publications – Last year the CAA reproduced Tom Ryder’s On The Box Seat, complete with updated images. This year we will produce World on Wheels, a composite of articles from the International Carriage Symposium. Funds from the Education Fund have been used to pay for the initial printing.
